What is The ComedySportz® High School League?
The ComedySportz® High School League is the largest and most successful improv training program for high school students in the country. You will have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of its newest expansion into the Greater Boston Area. Locally, it will be comprised of various teams of high school performers from different schools all around the city and immediate suburbs. Under the coaching of a professional ComedySportz® player, the student performers train in both showmanship and sportsmanship, ultimately competing in ComedySportz® Matches against other schools in The League.
The ComedySportz® High School League provides an extracurricular activity that goes beyond the stage and into everyday situations. When students are trained in ComedySportz® improv, they are trained in communication, confidence, quick thinking, individuality, and teamwork. The High School League teaches these skills in a safe and nurturing environment where “winning the match” is a distant second to taking risks and personal growth.
How many people do I need to form a ComedySportz® High School League Team?
There is no limit on the number of students you can have in a high school league team but you will need a minimum of four students to form a team.
How does it all work?
Each week each team will send 1 to 2 players to our all school meet up. There, all students will learn new games and exercises to bring back to their home school and teach to the rest of the team.
In addition, each month a professional ComedySportz® Player will come out to your school to run a two hour personalized workshop with your school’s team.
Further, there will be opportunities for teams to compete against other high school leagues on a regular basis at one of ComedySportz® Boston’s home theaters (exact schedule to be determined based on number of teams enrolled).
Schools will also be able to run their own shows at their schools, leading to many potential fundraising opportunities.
How can I get a ComedySportz® High School League at my school?
Whether you’re a teacher or student, you can start a ComedySportz® High School League team at your school by contacting us at email@example.com or 617-231-7006.
What is the time line for getting started with ComedySportz® High School League?
Enrollment in the ComedySportz® Boston’s High School League for Fall of 2015 is open now through August 15th.
We will begin sending CSz players and coaches to schools starting mid-September. The first all school practice (site TBD but wherever it is it will be T-accessible) and interschool match or matches will be in October!
How much does it cost?
Enrollment in CSz High School League will cost $500 for each full year. There will be an additional charge of $30 per student to cover the costs of a red and blue ComedySportz® High School League shirt.
These charges are to cover the costs of instructors and space for shows.
We know that most of the time you are looking at this number and saying “We don’t have that money, I guess we can’t do it.” But you do have options – sponsorship! We can print the names and single color logos of up to five companies, local or otherwise, on the back of your red and blue ComedySportz® high school league uniforms to sponsor your team. We will even provide a form that your students can use to help try and solicit this sponsorship from local businesses.
Furthermore, you will be able to host ComedySportz® shows at your schools. At Boston Latin School we have improv shows where we charge $3 for students and $5 for adults and easily make more than $500 from a 3pm and 7pm show. ComedySportz® High School League could potentially make money for your programs!
We hope you will consider joining the ComedySportz® High School League. It is a great opportunity for students and to interact with kids who do what they do at other schools.
